This televised version of Hamlet, with Patrick Stuart as King Claudius and David Tennant as Prince Hamlet, deftly transposed a staged production to a television format, making it available beyond the standing-room-only theatre setting (oversold to enthusiasts for Tennant’s earlier television role as Dr. Who). There is a resulting considerable gain in subtlety and precision permitted by close-ups and shifting angles of vision.
