Peter Hall, 1968, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act III, Scene 2: Judi Dench as Titania

Peter Hall’s Dream gives a contrasting television version of Dream to Reinhardt’s: small-scale, casual, provocative. The scantily-clad Titania of Judi Dench shocked many, but accurately reflects the sexual charge of Shakespeare’s script, carried over from his familiarity with the erotic poetry of Ovid. The harsh role of Nature in the play is vividly communicated.
