Romeo: Watercolor Design by Bianchini for Gounod's Opera
Watercolor by J. Biancini (1867) for Roméo et Juliette (Romeo and Juliet) an opera in five acts by Charles Gounod to a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, based on The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. It was first performed at the Théâtre Lyrique, Paris in 1868. The figure suggests a more poised and mature personality than Shakespeare's hero.
