Globe A26 The Tabard: a Medieval Inn in London.
This inn was where Chaucer's Canterbury pilgrims stayed at the start of The Canterbury Tales. It survived in Southwark until the 19th C. It shows the kind of space often used for Elizabethan performances in London and on tour. The balcony matches that of theatre stages such as those of the Rose and Globe. A temporary stage would be set up beneath one of the balconies - the others could be used to seat wealthier patrons while the crowd stood in the yard beneath.
