Macbeth 1993 National Theatre, London
Macbeth: the Witches' conjuration. Directed by Richard Eyre; Designer, Bob Crowley: Photographer Donald Cooper (ahds.ac.uk/performingarts); National Theatre Company, April 1993.
"Director Richard Eyre and designer Bob Crowley envisage Macbeth's world as a claustrophobic, windowless castle with brown walls and high turrets, form which only flights of imagination allow release to the witch's heath...Red curtains part and show a forest of grey trees and the three witches. The banquet table, round which flames flicker, becomes their magic circle: The blasted heath and Macbeth's castle are united in the Thane's surreal dream." Nicholas de Jongh, Evening Standard 2.4.93.Opening Date: 1 April 1993. Theatre: Olivier.
Modern technology allows for spectacular "supernatural" effects as in this witchcraft scene. HMR
