Hamlet, 1936: Set Designed by Jo Mielziner
This Broadway production of Hamlet, with John Gielgud, was considered one of the best ever designed. Mielziner designed the scenery, lighting, and costumes. Notice the survival of the traditional curtain at stage rear (required for concealment of Polonius in this scene of his accidental murder by Hamlet, 3.4.24).
