Coriolanus at the Drury Lane Theatre, 1808.
This is the third Drury Lane Theatre, which Richard Sheridan built as an enlargement of the facility in 1794, but which burned down in 1809. Note the survival of the thrust stage beyond the curtain. The scene appears to be near the conclusion of Shakespeare's Coriolanus. This aquatint is based on an original painting by Augustus Charles Pugin. Courtesy of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
