Post-modernism: Romeo and Juliet. RSC, 1990

The opening quarrel between the families starts when a chic sports car is driven onstage. This kind of startling anachronism of effects is very characteristic of "postmodern" productions such as this by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1990. A similar updating was filmed in 1997, with Leonardo di Caprio and Claire Danes. directed by Buz Luhrman and produced by Gabriella Martinelli.
