Elizabethan Theatres (Royal Mail Stamps)

Royal Mail Stamps of Elizabethan Theatres Issued in 1995.

These Royal Mail stamps illustrate how the rebuilding of the Globe sparked general interest in theatres of Shakespeare's time. They were designed by C. Walter Hodges, illustrator, author and expert on Shakespeare, who was born on March 18, 1909. He died on November 26, 2004, aged 95. The five shown are the First Globe (top right), the Hope (top centre), the Second Globe (top left), the Rose (bottom left) and the Swan (lower right). All these images are partly conjectural, despite many plausible details.
