Shaw was intensely aware of Shakespeare as a dominant precedent in the theatre. Here Shaw embodies the Shakespeare of the Sonnets in a playlet featuring the playwright and Queen Elizabeth(seen here), as well as the Dark Lady, and aimed ultimately at the creation of a National Theatre.
