Alexander Pope's house at Twickenham A View of Alexander Pope's Villa, Twickenham, on the Banks of the Thames. Funded by successful publication, this was a locale that delighted Pope, and contained his famous grotto, which still survives. Shakespeare shared with Poe the unusual business capacity to profit greatly from his artistic career and apply this profit to the securing of an ideal country residence. Courtesy Yorck Project.
