"River Landscape with Windsor Castle" by Edward Williams (1782-1855).
In May, 1709, Pope's Pastorals were published in the sixth part of Tonson's Poetical Miscellanies. One of Pope's first poems (1704) was called "Windsor Forest" and showed his love of this kind of landscape. It was later much revised and extended before being published in 1713. This park is the setting for scenes in Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor, particularly its climax. Courtesy of the Yorck Project, under GNU Free Document License.
