James Scott, Duke of Monmouth
As the illegitimate son of King Charles II, Monmouth was the king's darling, but rebelled and was executed. He was very much a Hotspur-like figure (in "Henry IV , Part 1"). The father and son became major figures in Dryden's biblical mock epic "Absolom and Achitophel." Courtesy of the Yorck Project (Boughton House), under GNU Free Document License.
