Every Man in His Humour: Mr. Bannister as Captain Bobadil.
There were two Bannisters who were eighteenth-century actors with Garrick: Charles Bannister (1738?-1836) was the father of John Bannister (1760-1836) whose career is narrated in Memoirs of John Bannister by John Adolphus (1838). The father was a memorable Caliban, though the more youthful son seems the more likely figure here, even if the Memoirs of the more prominent son do not mention performing any parts from Jonson's plays. Jonson's Captain Bobadil is a flamboyant fencing master.Published by J. Roach, Russell Court, Drury Lane c.1796.
