Oliver Cromwell by Robert Walker (died 1658)

Milton worked for Cromwell and the Commonwealth Government as Latin Secretary for some years, replaced by Andrew Marvell because of Milton's increasing blindnes. Most of Shakespeare's histories suggest the dangers of civil war which such relentless characters evoked.
