The Park of La Garenne at Nérac

This is the country setting in which Shakespeare lodges his Princess and her court in Love's Labour's Lost (compare it with the set in the next image). It was created by Marguerite de Valois during her stay with the King of Navarre in 1578. The statue commemorates another victim of the king's amorous propensities.
