Angelo Bronzino (1503–1572): portrait of Laura Battiferri.
Angelo Bronzino (1503–1572): portrait of Laura Battiferri, wife of sculptor Bartolomeo Ammannati (1550/1555). The Lady holds in her hand the Canzoniere of Petrarch, alluding to her own name Laura. This shows how fashionable Petrarch's love poetry was among 16th c. ladies, in Italy as in France and England. The picture is in the Collezione Loeser, near the Palazzo Vecchio Florence.Picture and data courtesy of the Yorck Project, under Creative Commons Attribution-Share- Alike License (Wikipedia)
