B55 Henslowe's Diary
Theatre accounting from the diary's handwritten accounts like these provide many significant details of the operation of London theatres by a leading manager during Shakespeare's lifetime, Phillip Henslowe, who owned the Rose Theatre (previous image). This and many other manuscripts owned by the Elizabethan actor Edward Alleyn are now in the Library of Dulwich College, which he founded. Courtesy of its Librarian.
See website: "Henslowe-Alleyn: Home" under our "Relevant Websites" for more about these documents. Dulwich College, London, UK, holds the professional papers of the actor Edward Alleyn (1566-1626) and of his father-in-law Philip Henslowe (d. 1616): the most important archive on theatre in the age of Shakespeare, Marlowe, Jonson, Middleton, etc.
