William Poel(1852-1934): an influential Edwardian producer of Shakespeare.

As seen in the previous picture of Measure for Measure, and the tenth image in this gallery, Poel was largely responsible for the move in Shakespeare production towards the recreation of the conditions of the original staging of Shakespeare's plays, leading ultimately of the rebuilding of an approximation to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre near its original site in Southwark.
