Henry VIII; Henry Harris as Cardinal Wolsey

Sir William Davenant secured the right to perform Henry VIII after the Restoration of King Charles II. He claimed to follow the instructions about the play's performance which the actor John Lowin had received from Shakespeare when the play was first staged. Harris is the first named actor shown in an accurate period costume, as the play is held to require. The original is in the Ashmolean, Oxford.
