Macbeth, I.iv: Orson Welles, Negro Theatre Project of NYC
In Welles' three-act play, this is I.iii. Duncan and his court arrive at Macbeth's castle. Welles set the play on a Carribean island such as 19th c. Haiti with the witches as voodoo priestesses, and with an authentic African drum band, led by a supposed witch doctor, who refused to play authentic voodoo music as part of Welles' incidental music (mostly composed by Virgil Thomson), because the real thing would be too dangerous (New York Times, 7/20/2-010, C4).
