A theatre manager and prolific dramatist, Buckstone was noted as a "low comedian" cast in such roles as Peter (R&J), Launcelot (MoV), Aguecheek (T.Night) Verges (M.Ado), Touchstone (AYLI), and the gravedigger (Hamlet).
