4.1.The Globe as Seen in 1900

The interest in the Globe itself was evolving as suggested by this sketch of the second Globe (left) . It is based on Hollar's drawing of it after the first Globe burned down in 1613. The other theatre (right) is the Beargarden or Hope, built in 1614. Note the stress on the rural surroundings, analogous to ancient Greek theatres (see Gallery 8.1)
