Fanny Kemble (1809-93).

Fanny Kemble was the daughter of Charles Kemble and first performed, as Juliet, in 1829, excelling later as Portia, Beatrice and other leading roles. After her American husband became a plantation slave-owner she became an abolitionist at great personal cost. The engraving is from a painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence.
