This selective list primarily concerns distinctive comments in English about major English language productions of individual plays. It does not exhaust every single-play edition which may include a brief production history, in such series as the Arden, Cambridge, Folger, Oxford, Signet, etc. It also does not list all theatre reviews and other references to specific performances in such accessible journals as Shakespeare Bulletin, Shakespeare Newsletter, Shakespeare Quarterly, and Shakespeare Survey. Their current website lists of published contents can be consulted for further references. See also the World Shakespeare Bibliography listings under "performance" for all play titles. Broader surveys covering several productions usually appear in the earlier sections of the bibliography. As prefatory material is the focus here, text editions are listed under editors' names. Advice on omissions of important comments about significant individual productions is welcomed for subsequent addition here.
