Because of the recent enormous increase in performance studies this bibliography is illustrative rather than exhaustive and it stresses English-speaking productions. Recent publications will be progressively assimilated and references to non-English Shakespeare productions will be developed. Sources and credits for illustrations can be found in the relevant gallery sections. The site management welcomes suggestions for additions at all points.
David Garrick delivering his Ode to Shakespeare at Drury Lane Theatre in 1769. Garrick's Shakespeare Jubilee at Stratford-upon-Avon earlier that year, and this later program in London, repeated 88 times, greatly fostered Shakespeare's celebrity. Engraving by J. Lodge.
